Classes

An ongoing exploration into the art and science of yoga. With the use of props, this class works to breakdown basic poses into understandable bites. A highly attentive and supportive environment, this class is great for beginners and ongoing students looking to refine.

This open-levels class is for anyone working to grow their practice. Variations to offer modification or challenges will be offered for all; beginners and seasoned practitioners alike. Come with a willingness to learn, play, and grow in the community of others! $12 cash drop in.

Group practice style, this class is for experienced practitioners. Working towards a peak pose, this class dissects the ins and outs of a pose. Students will work on a greater variety of poses, including inversions.

An hour of play and power, yogahour is a rockin', alignment based, flow class. The room is heated and music is a must! This class is ideal for anyone wanting to get fit and flexible in the context of fun. All levels are welcome!

 In this yogahour-style class, the instructor leading the class will practice along with the group. 50% of the proceeds from this class will go directly to a local charity chosen each year by the studio. This year is The Boys and Girls Club of St. Louis.

This class will help you wind down and prepare for the week ahead. While poses are held longer, this class is designed to open up the muscles and relax, while being well supported via props. Students are also introduced to breathwork. Essential oils are occasionally used with student’s permission.

Prenatal is a class specifically designed to be safe and supportive for both prenatal and postnatal women, without lacking the physical fitness aspect of practice. Parents are welcome to attend with pre-crawling babies, too.

Ease into your weekend with this mellow vinyasa –based flow class. Using seated meditation, breathwork, and props, this class will help you connect back to YOU.

Teachers

Candace Glass

Candace became the owner of Southtown Yoga in March, 2016. She also owns Elephant Power: Mindfulness and Yoga for Kids. Candace is passionate about teaching yoga and mindfulness to everyone -- young and old alike. A city resident, Candace loves dark chocolate, sushi, and walking her dogs at Tower Grove Park. She is grateful for the Southtown community and believes that life is about the simple things and everyday is a gift to cherish and hold.

E-RYT 200, RCYT, RPYT, and Certified yogahour teacher.

Kathryn Heitzenroeder

Kathryn has been practicing yoga for over twelve years. Eight years ago she received her teachers' training at the Solar Yoga Center in St. Louis. She also completed Southtown Yoga's 2009 teacher training with Mitchel Bleier and Brigette Finley. To continue her yoga education, Kathryn has a strong practice of her own, which includes yoga workshops, yoga camps and a daily yoga routine. She continues to learn and evolve from the support of her own teachers. Kathryn's classes include mediation, a detailed asana work out and a guided relaxation. Her teaching promotes a strong foundation of alignment focusing on the breath and movement. The classes are a combination of Hatha, Anusara and Vinyasas. Most classes are open level. Beginners are welcome.

Kiley Enno

Kiley came to Southtown Yoga after years of hassling from her mom. Despite her initial resistance, she was quickly consumed by the benefits and challenges that her practice and the community offered. She completed Southtown’s Teacher Training in 2012 and became yogahour certified in 2014.  She recognizes that her mom was right, and admittedly, now drives the yoga ‘bandwagon.’ She considers Southtown Yoga a second home.

Roxanne Frank

Roxanne started her yoga practice with a DVD and a friend in her living room in 2006. In 2012 she moved to St. Louis and completed her 200-hour teacher certification with Mitchel Bleier and Brigette Finley. Through her practice and study, Roxie has discovered yoga's ability to transform perspectives, create friendships and open the door to many opportunities. She strives to bring what she discovers on the mat into the whole of her life.

Erin Schulte

Erin has been an athlete her entire life. After completing a few marathons and triathlons, she stumbled upon yoga and decided to give it a try. She loves that it offers a different physical and mental challenge to her body than other activities. She strives to challenge her students to be well both physically and mentally. She firmly believes that we can take what we learn on the mat and live greater lives off the mat. Yoga has enhanced her life so much and she is inspired to share the practice with her students!

Kristina Camba Skinner

Kristina found her yoga home at Southtown Yoga when she participated in the 2011 Yoga Bender. In 2014, she completed Southtown Yoga's 200-hour teacher training and is now a Certified Yogahour® Teacher. Kristina loves that yoga makes everyday better and often uses it as a tool to flip perspective. When she's not practicing, she enjoys running, cooking, and being a nurse. Expect a fun but challenging class from this playful and feisty teacher.

Glenna Bedoya

Glenna began her yoga practice in 1994. A teacher since 2011, her classes focus on alignment and breath for a powerfully grounded practice. Trained in Forrest and Anusara Yoga, Glenna assisted Elena Brower's Advanced Teacher Training, and is now a certified yogahour teacher under the guidance of Darren Rhodes. She offers an empowering, aligned flow yoga that invites students to play intelligently at their edge to reconnect with their own inherent wisdom and power.

Sasha Sawhill

Sasha took her first yoga class in college in 1999. Her teacher and yoga inspiration was Flora Nessly. Yoga has taught her to live with meaning, being mindful to bring her mat practice to everyday life. Sasha completed her teacher training certification with Mitchel Bleier and Brigette Finley in 2012 when she first moved to Saint Louis. Her classes combine alignment, attention to your body & breath, and where you are with your yoga in the present.

Lara Gershman

After practicing for years, Lara’s dedication to yoga grew exponentially when she discovered Southtown in early 2014. She completed Yogahour teacher training with Brigette and Alexis Finley in 2015, a few months after finishing her Masters of Social Work. Lara has found yoga to be a major positive force in her life, both physically and mentally, and is thrilled to be able to share this with others. When not at the studio, she can be found working with young people, seeing live music, and exploring the many gems St. Louis has to offer.

Lindsay Drake

After taking a few drop-in classes at a variety of studios, Lindsay fell in love with Yogahour in 2012. At the time, she was looking for a once per week switch up to her gym routine, but it gradually became her sole source of exercise. The mental benefits of yoga were an unexpected surprise, and so was the warm and inviting community at STY. Lindsay completed her Yogahour teacher training in 2015, a fun challenge during pregnancy. When Lindsay is not doing yoga, she loves adventures at home and away with her family.

Erika Drake

Erika began yoga many years ago but became passionate about it after attending a Southtown Yoga class in 2012. Yogahour quickly became her favorite class and workout with the fast-pace and breadth and variety of poses in each class. After gaining a skillful foundation, she enjoyed learning more about each pose and wanted to expand her knowledge-set, so attended Teacher Training in 2015. Yoga has become her physical, mental and emotional outlet and she is excited to share that with students. Outside the studio, Erika spends most of her time chasing her twin boys.

Devon Drag

Devon began practicing at STY in 2013 and stepped into her teaching journey in 2016. She continues to build her knowledge everyday through a strong personal practice and time on the mat with her students and teachers. Devon’s teaching style encourages a strong focus on alignment and aims to make yoga approachable for all students while offering challenges and opportunities to advance their practice. Devon has a welcoming approach that makes the practice space a safe and comfortable place for all and she hopes to share the joy and foundation that yoga has given to her with her own students.

Megan Kimball

Megan’s yoga journey started eight years ago after discovering a Iyengar studio in Washington, D.C. Megan earned her RYT 200-Hour Certification in 2011. In 2016, she traveled to the “Yoga Capitol of the World” in Rishikesh, India to study under Himalayan Yoga Master Yogrishi Vishvketu, and completed her RYT 300-Hour Certification. Megan is trained in Akhanda-style, Classic Kundalini, restorative and prenatal yoga, as well as Shatkarmas cleansing techniques. Megan places an emphasis on form versus speed and introduces restorative sequences to help students cope with depression or anxiety. She believes that yoga, when practiced holistically, can bring harmony and balance to our lives. Outside of the studio, Megan is an avid runner and wellness advocate (but has a soft spot for Ted Drewes Custard).  

Angela Merriken, RPYT, CLC, HHC, PPD

Angie wants to live in a world where every family feels comfortable and confident with their pregnancy and birth. 

As a Prenatal Yoga Instructor, she has helped pregnant women cope with the ever-changing shifts in their bodies.  As a Childbirth Educator and Doula, she has guided many families in creating the birth experience they envision. 

Her classes focus on breathing, poses and visualizations that can be used during pregnancy and labor.  She also believes it is necessary to build endurance and stamina for the big day and a speedier postpartum recovery. 

When she’s not teaching, you can find her spending time with her two kids, husband and Golden Retriever; usually outside somewhere playing in the dirt and water. 

She is very excited to be joining the Southtown Yoga team and working with families in the community.
